Problem:
Nephro Care's nephrologist needed a clinical system built around the actual workflow of nephrology practice — tracking dialysis frequency, monitoring lab parameters like hemoglobin and creatinine trends over time, and managing patients with complex comorbidity and surgical histories — none of which generic EMR software was designed for. Reception staff also had no efficient way to get printed lab reports into the system beyond manual re-typing, and the doctor had no structured way to see how a patient's key blood parameters were trending across visits.
Solution:
Latent built Nephro Care's platform as two connected apps — a reception-facing mobile app and a doctor-facing web platform:
- Patient registration & queue management — reception staff register patients (including Aadhaar), search existing patients by phone number, and manage a live patient queue.
- OCR-based lab report capture — reception staff photograph a printed lab report and the app extracts structured values (white blood count, red blood count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets, and more) automatically, flagging abnormal results before the doctor even opens the case.
- Dialysis & comorbidity tracking — the doctor's platform tracks dialysis frequency and schedule per patient, alongside comorbidity and surgical history (e.g. prior cardiac procedures), directly relevant to chronic kidney disease management.
- Structured, meal-timed prescriptions — medications entered with dosage and timing across pre/post breakfast, lunch, and dinner, generating a clean, printable prescription.
- Lab parameter trend charts — historical lab values plotted over time, letting the doctor see a patient's trajectory at a glance instead of scanning a table of past reports.
Impact:
Nephro Care's nephrologist got a system that actually matched how the practice worked, not a generic EMR retrofitted with nephrology terminology. OCR lab capture removed manual re-entry of lab values at the reception desk, dialysis and comorbidity tracking gave the doctor structured visibility into a patient population with genuinely complex, interlinked conditions, and trend charts turned scattered historical lab reports into an at-a-glance clinical picture. The result was more structured, comprehensive patient data, less administrative overhead, and a system built to support, not slow down, day-to-day nephrology practice.
Key Outcomes:
- Two connected apps built and launched: a reception mobile app and a doctor web platform
- OCR-based lab report capture with automatic abnormal-value flagging
- Dialysis frequency and comorbidity/surgical history tracking built into the clinical workflow
- Structured, meal-timed prescriptions with clean printable output
- Lab parameter trend charts replacing manual review of historical reports
